Discover the coastline and hinterland

The seaside resort of Le Grau du roi, located in the Camargue in the bay of Aigues mortes in the middle of the ponds, will seduce you with its protected natural and ecological environment, its 18 km of beaches and its old town centre with its timeless charm. Espiguette beach is one of the most beautiful and largest beaches in the northern Mediterranean basin. It extends over nearly 10 km and offers striking landscapes without dwellings, shops or roads.

Coastal beaches

Only a few minutes by car, La Grande Motte is famous for its casino, its water sports and its fine sandy beaches, particularly suitable for families with children. This seaside resort with its unusual architecture is one of the trendiest places in the south of France with its private beaches and discos.
 
Carnon called the seaside resort of Montpellier is a family resort with many activities and village festivals. The beaches of Les Petites and Grand Travers extend over 7 kms, water sports are very present on these well-developed beaches.
 
Between the sea, the scrubland and the Gardiole hill, very close to the Thau basin, discover Frontignan, a dream coastline with preserved beaches. Among other things, the beach of Les Aresquiers, covered with shells and pebbles, is isolated and quiet, perfect for nature lovers.

The Backcountry

A stone’s throw away is the village of Saint Christol with its Viavino wine tourism centre, which offers tastings in the cellar or family walks in the educational vineyards. Not to be missed, “Viavino Fridays” (July and August) enjoy an open-air concert with a farmers’ market.
 
7kms from Lunel, Villetelle, a fortified town built on the hill, and its archaeological site of Ambrussum which provides an exceptional testimony to the life of the site during the Gallo-Roman period
Saint Guilem le désert, a small medieval town that is one of the most beautiful villages in France on the way to Saint Jacques de Compostelle with its Abbey classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
 
Pic St Loup, one of the most beautiful natural sites in the Garrigues region. Emblematic mountain of the Montpellier hinterland, the peak reaches an altitude of 688 metres and is accessible within an hour’s walk for those who love hiking. You will taste wines that match the landscapes that gave rise to them.
 
The Salagou Lake, so special for its ochre soil that surrounds the lake. Hikers, hikers or mountain bikers will be delighted to follow 28km of the path that follows the shores of this wonderful lake, a haven of peace and tranquility.
